Spiritual arrogance is a problem. We can become so morally upright that we lose sight of God’s grace, both to ourselves and to others. This occurs when we become so entrenched in the keeping the letter of the Law that we can declare ourselves righteous and others, who have failed to be as circumspect, as sinners. Inhabiting such a framework, we then cannot see new movements of grace that does not allow sin to stop it and as a result we stand against the fresh work of the Spirit. Ironically, only by seeing our blindness may we come to see our need for grace.
