The Church as Outpost
In Christendom, it was assumed that Jesus resided inside the church building. If people wanted to encounter the holy they should go to the church. In post-Christian society, Jesus goes ahead of the church into the world. The task of the church becomes a signpost to the presence of the kingdom of God in the midst of the world.
